HISTORY OF OUR DIOCESE

Before the Beginning of the creation of the Diocese of Okigwe–Orlu, in 1984, there was an agreement to create Okigwe Diocese out of Orlu, after at least five years. In readiness for a new Diocese therefore, the Diocesan Board of the Diocese of Okigwe–Orlu on December 23rd, 1985, created Mbano-Okigwe Archdeaconry, which was subsequently inaugurated on 10th April, 1986, with headquarters at Christ Church Ezihe. Its first Archdeacon was Ven. H.C. Akaniro, while its foundation parishes were: Anara; Ehime; Umuduru; Okigwe; Oka- Obollo, Umueze–Owerre and Amauzari.
The following Parishes were later created namely:
Osuama out of Anara on 23rd January, 1988; Oka Parish on 30th January, 1988; Obollo Parish on 14th January, 1989; Agbaja Parish on 24th June, 1989; and Akanuezela Parish in July, 1989. Thus Mbano–Okigwe Archdeaconry rose from seven to eleven parishes.
From 1992 to 1993 when Mbano–Okigwe and Etiti Archdeaconries were to form the Diocese of Okigwe, There was a disagreement between the leaders of the two Archdeaconries, over the location of the Headqu ... Continue Reading
