HISTORY OF OUR DIOCESE
Before the Beginning of the creation of the Diocese of Okigwe–Orlu, in 1984, there was an agreement to create Okigwe Diocese out of Orlu, after at least five years. In readiness for a new Diocese therefore, the Diocesan Board of the Diocese of Okigwe–Orlu on December 23rd, 1985, created Mbano-Okigwe Archdeaconry, which was subsequently inaugurated on 10th April, 1986, with headquarters at Christ Church Ezihe. Its first Archdeacon was Ven. H.C. Akaniro, while its foundation parishes were: Anara; Ehime; Umuduru; Okigwe; Oka- Obollo, Umueze–Owerre and Amauzari.
The following Parishes were later created namely:
Osuama out of Anara on 23rd January, 1988; Oka Parish on 30th January, 1988; Obollo Parish on 14th January, 1989; Agbaja Parish on 24th June, 1989; and Akanuezela Parish in July, 1989. Thus Mbano–Okigwe Archdeaconry rose from seven to eleven parishes.

There was famine in the land (verse 1), but the LORD told Isaac not to go down to Egypt. Read verses B&4 again. Isaac was obedient to God s command and dwelt in Gerar. >> We started on 7th January 1994 with one Archdeaconry, which had 29 main churches and 29 baby churches, but today after we have given birth to another fully fledge diocese (Diocese of Okigwe) in 2009, we remain 29 Archdeaconries and 27 Parishes, with 72 Church Stations.
